Kerry Defends Iran Nuclear Deal

Secretary of State John Kerry appeared before a skeptical panel of senators during a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing about the Iran nuclear deal on Thursday July 23, 2015. The hearing was part of the agreement’s 60-day congressional review period that I was covering on assignment for United Press International.

Kerry was accused of being “fleeced” but the Iranians and that he was giving them what they want in the deal.

Kerry said in rebuttal, “Folks, they already have what they want. They got it 10 years ago or more,” Kerry said. “This isn’t a question in giving them what they want. I mean, it’s a question of how do you hold their program back?”

Appearing with Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz and Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew, Kerry fiercely defended the Iran nuclear deal for four and a half hours on Thursday finally cutting the hearing off saying he was expected at the House of Representatives for another meeting.

  1. Secretary of State John Kerry on Sunday defended the nuclear deal he recently negotiated with Iran, refuting criticism it failed to include the promised “anywhere, anytime” facilities inspections.
