Recently I had the honor of covering my fifth State of the Union Address in Washington D.C. This year I was on assignment for Bloomberg News. It is always a long day. Most of us arrive early in the day to set up our work positions and make sure that everything is ready for the 9:00pm event.

Some of the wire services (Getty, AP, Reuters etc.) and The Washington Post will have 3 or 4 photographers covering the speech from different positions around the House Chamber. I was working with Andrew Harrer, the chief Washington, D.C. photographer for Bloomberg and we covered the speech from behind the President (my position) and from a roaming position that allows Andrew to shoot from a few different angles from the front.

With nearly 50 credentialed still photographers and an additional 15 or so official Senate, House and White House photographers, it can get a bit crowded. But everyone works together really well and the House and Senate press galleries do a great job of coordinating the event to make sure that everyone is able to get what they need.

These are some of my favorites from the evening.
