President Barack Obama went to Capitol Hill last night to deliver his fifth State of the Union address. This is always a long day and everyone converges on the Capitol to cover it. I was on assignment for Bloomberg News. To make sure I am able to get parking, I arrive about 7 a.m. for a speech that doesn’t happen until 9 p.m. While I did manage to cover a couple of regular press conferences, most of the day’s attention was for the main event.

There is a lot of waiting and then a flurry of activity from about 8:30 until I finally got home at midnight.

These are some of my favorites from the night.

After the President’s ceremonial report not the State of the Union he took a road trip today to push the policies that he said he would pursue on his own if Congress won’t.

I covered his speech for CORBIS at a nearby Costco in Maryland. As with most events like this, we only have access to the main riser and another set up on one side of the stage.

Here is some more favorites.
